Issues/Debates

1- Development related to Genetics or environment??

2- Occurs Slowly or in Steps.??

1-Nature vs. Nurture
  1. Nature- Related to heredity
  2. Nurture- Related to environment
  • Developoment= Heredity x Environment
2- Early vs. Later Experiences
  •     according to Freud. much of a child's personality is completely established by the age of five.
3- Continuity vs. Discontinuity
  • Smoothly over time, or series of predetermined steps??

Vygotsky- Development is Continuous process (no steps)
Piaget, Erickson, Freud, Kohlberg- Discontinuous process (predetermined Steps)
